Our Story

We Believe We Can All Make a Difference

The love of vintage started as a child, I loved the treasure hunt, the craftsmanship in each item I had picked up. I would imagine who made it, who worn it and how it ended up in my hands. Through my teens & early 20’s I’d collect & learn about vintage and antiques. In 2010 I lost the lady I idolised my nana I knew I needed something to focus on, that’s where Gem’s boutique was born which was featured in vogue, BBC antiques to name a few it was really doing so well but 2015 life took a dramatic turn I was diagnosed with ME/CFS I had to stop everything!

Slowly I rebuilt my new life with my new restrictions and 2018 I reopened Gem’s Boutique but this time making lasting memories for loved one’s belongings. As much as I do love doing that, I knew something was missing! When I started my self discovery, healing journey there it was a vintage gold dressing gown which I new I had to have. I knew that it was vintage I was missing, the history of life I needed.

This is when I decided to launch the vintage hippy a business that was more than just collecting & reselling vintage clothing but a community of women supporting each other, involving other women owned businesses who like me wanted to feel free again. I also wanted to show that running a business is tough but running a business as a disabled woman can be done. I pride myself on making one off pieces only using vintage fabrics, fabric saved from landfill and anything new I need to purchase I go straight to source to cut down the carbon footprint.

All measurements on our vintage items will be taken as our modern sizing is very different!

The items made by us are one size as we don’t believe *in* putting a number on a figure!
